About the College of Nursing
The College of Nursing, Federal Government Polyclinic (PGMI), Islamabad, is a public-sector nursing institution committed to preparing competent, compassionate, and ethically grounded nurses for modern healthcare environments. The college offers professional education through classroom teaching, clinical exposure, skills training, community-based learning, and paid internship opportunities.
History and Establishment
Established in 1977 as a nursing school under the Federal Government Services Hospital, the institution was recognized by the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council in 1978. The first batch of nurses graduated in 1980.
From 1978 to 2022, the institute offered a Diploma in General Nursing with Midwifery. It has now been upgraded to a degree-awarding institution and renamed the College of Nursing, FGPC (PGMI), Islamabad, offering a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program from the academic session 2020-21 onward.

With our transition from a diploma-awarding institute to a degree-granting college, we continue to strengthen our academic standards in line with modern educational and clinical requirements.

Nursing within the Muslim Ummah finds its roots in the teachings of the Holy Qur'an, as stated in Al-Quran 5:32: "...and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind." Nursing is indeed a noble and sacred profession.
In recent years, it has undergone significant transformation due to the introduction of advanced medications, increased acuity of patient care, innovative technologies, and the emergence of new health challenges. The population served by the Federal Government Polyclinic Islamabad (FGPC) continues to grow, and more individuals now rely on us for essential healthcare services. Despite the challenges posed by this growing demand and expanding service delivery, the exceptional healthcare professionals at FGPC (PGMI) remain steadfast in providing care to patients and their families with warmth, empathy, and dedication.
Our vision for nursing is to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-focused care while fostering a supportive and empowering work environment for nursing staff. Such an important mission calls for a well-prepared and skilled nursing workforce. However, Pakistan faces a critically low nurse-to-patient ratio. To address this gap, a comprehensive national nursing education initiative has been launched.
Our College of Nursing plays an integral role in this initiative by offering foundational nursing education to selected students. Yet, in today's fast-evolving scientific and social landscape, foundational training alone is not enough. Therefore, we are actively working toward launching a Post-RN program and expanding student intake. These initiatives will help shape the future of nursing by providing diversified career paths, robust orientation programs, and ongoing educational support. Additionally, they will empower both early-career and seasoned nurses through innovative projects and leadership development opportunities.
As Executive Director, I remain deeply committed to advancing nursing education and training, upholding the dignity of the profession, and enhancing the overall quality of nurses' professional lives. Fee Structure
The institute strictly follows the policies and directives of the affiliated university, the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, and Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital Islamabad, and any change in the fee structure is determined and implemented by the concerned organization, not by the institute itself.
Any change in the fee structure regarding PNMC and SZABMU shall be applicable. The admission and semester fee structure may change from time to time, and the final decision shall be subject to the orders of the organization.
